Public Enemy #1
This comes from a little Rotoworld blurb about The Big Hurt:
Thomas has been a major disappointment, and though that probably won't last, his signing was another J.P. Ricciardi miscalculation. The Blue Jays knew that Adam Lind's best position was DH and that Troy Glaus would likely need time off at times. Still, they spent $18 million to bring in someone who couldn't possibly play anywhere else. This is how they started with Bonds and Belle, and I assume Eddie Murray. When you piss off the media JP they tear you apart little by little. I have been noticing little touches like "another JP Ricciardi miscalculation" for about a week now. Before long they will be calling him the worst GM in baseball. This lie will follow him around the rest of his career.
Baseball writers can be bitches when they feel tricked or left out. I don't think JP was wrong for lying, I just think he was wrong for owning up.
Oh, and hey Rotoworld, Thomas was a steal at 9 mil. per. And Lind is like, what, 23. He should learn to play LF.
