One to Hate on Valentine's Day
I am at work. There are chocolate hearts everywhere, and we are talking about quitting early so to minimize our time sludging through the snow. Everybody is happy. Valentine’s day – time for a little hate. But whom should I hate? My first thought was Royce Clayton. There is no way in hell that Royce of the .307 OBP, should have earned himself a starting job on a contender. No way that, with new dirty Rogers money, the Jays would have to reach into the Red’s garbage bin for an IF plug. But it has happened, and I am feeling the burn. But as I think of poor Royce, and look at his sad little face at sportsline.com, I realize that my Valentine’s Day hate is misplaced. It is Russ Adams’ fault. Russ, Mr. .282 OBP, .319 SLG, and .219 BA. Mr. I have a freebie at 2B and I can’t even hit .220, can’t even make signing Royce Clayton to start at short an impossibility. Russ Adams. If you need to hate anyone today, and you do, hate him. And when you are done, hate Royce, just a little, for not retiring last year…
With love,
Christopher James
